Busselton Central Shopping Centre, located on the western edge of Mitchell Park in the heart of old Busselton, has undergone a transformative $45 million redevelopment. As the Lead Design Consultant for this exciting project, TRCB has helped to create a vibrant new space that connects the shopping centre with the city’s main shopping street, Queen Street, and the newly completed Mitchell Park.
The redevelopment extended the existing east-west mall into Mitchell Park and northward into a newly designed entertainment precinct. This area now boasts a modern upper-level cinema, multiple hospitality venues, and a host of specialty stores. The transformation has revitalized the shopping centre’s relationship with its surroundings, particularly its parkland frontage, while integrating seamlessly with the Busselton CBD.
The new Mitchell Park frontage offers a lively blend of sheltered outdoor spaces, designed to serve a range of new restaurants, cafes, and bars. To the north, on Kent Street, a new microbrewery brings added vibrancy to the area, activating another key street edge. The architectural refresh of the centre absorbs and elevates the previous mismatched styles, creating a more cohesive, place-specific design.
With the addition of food and beverage tenancies, including cafes, restaurants, and a new pub, this redevelopment provides much-needed amenities for both locals and visitors. The new 5-screen cinema adds to the entertainment offering, rounding out the centre’s diverse range of retail, hospitality, and entertainment options. Busselton Central now presents an appropriately scaled, activated precinct, contributing to the civic pride of the city and enhancing the overall experience of Mitchell Park. The project not only revitalizes the shopping centre but also strengthens Busselton's position as a popular tourist destination.
