Curtin University required a teaching and learning space that provided engineering students with opportunities for experiential learning, and an environment in which to explore real-life engineering parameters.
TRCB responded with the design of the Engineering Pavilion, also known as one of the Curtin Living Labs, where students learn by doing. The multipurpose building is used to demonstrate the core principles of engineering, as well as the complexity of designing a building to balance structure and comfort.
Featuring a triple-height exhibition space and multiple interactive learning environments, the facility showcases the various engineering disciplines.
Sustainability is central to the design, with Building 215 being the university’s first building to achieve a Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) ‘as designed’ 5 Star rating.
As the first built stage of the Curtin University Engineering Precinct Masterplan, the siting and configuration of the Engineering Pavilion play a key role in stitching together the precinct’s context.
